I need to adjust the chaincase tension and I can't seam to get the muffler out?? Any help there would be appreciated.
Dealer can't get to me for at least two weeks.

Did you forget the spring behind the muffler?

Be sure you have a spare exhaust gasket as the old one will most likely be stuck to both flanges and split.

3 bolts and a what's it a couple of springs and you are ready to lift out

Yes, there is a spring on the back side unhook and then wiggle while pulling upward and the 3 positions with rubber gromets will slide off their positions. You will need a new gasket.

Is there only one spring??? Seems I don't have a tool to reach that spring. What tool can reach that far do you recomend??

Yes, just one spring. I used a pair of needle nose pliers and was able to unhook it. When you reinstall, position that spring in an upward angle so you can grab it agan to hook it back up.

You can take a sharp knife and cut along one side of muffler flange and reuse your gasket one more time. I took a 16 penney nail and stuck it in a vise and bent it into a hook shape than used a vice grips on the straight end of nail and reached down and unhooked spring. Dont forget to unsnap the o2 sensor

Did all this on the trail last weekend to adjust my chain, what a pain in the #*$&@,my gaskets was in three pieces ,just stuck um all back in and tightened it down, will be changing the exhaust soon for this reason alone.

A spring tool is about $5 at your local sports toy store. And handy to have

If you have some high temp gasket maker kicking around dab some on the spring base, let it set with the spring sticking up. That way when you put the muffler back on you never have to fish the spring back up because you forgot to leave it up or knocked it down while inserting muffler while lining up rubber grommets. Not that I ever had that happen to me.

Or you can loop a string on that spring to help pull it back up from behind there.

A heavy wire coat hanger. Snip off the hook, bend a tight hook on one end to grab the spring. Make a loop with the other end for a handle. Can make it as long or short as you need.

I have cut a notch in a large flat blade screwdriver.. works good
