FIREFIGHTERS OUT THERE?

Volunteer Firefighter II / First Responder St. Libory, IL

Was in the fire dept for a couple years and got to know the chiefs well and they wanted me to become the leiutenant but shortly after that I got divorced and moved.

Got a bit burnt out going to alot of calls and driving the ambulance a little bit.
Drove 15 minutes in blizzards to get to chimney fires of people I knew.
Another had chickens, cats, dogs and ducks coming out of a house on fire.
Friends son pinned under a rolled over tractor.I was first one there.
Stupid big tire fire 4 of us get the one side under control and really putting it out then the chief says let it burn.
Lots of wierd stuff.

Fire dept I was in actually had to come to my house.
Went to my grandmothers house for an ambulance call.

I think the chief was screwing my now exwife back then.
I think she ruined his marriage too!!He went from a small store owner to a divorced bank teller.

3/4 mile from where I lived there was a dwi driver that caused an accident and killed his passenger and 2 ladies in the other car.2 cars hit head on at 55+ and pieces allover the road and I helped put the ladies in the ambulance and then was told block the road with the rescue step van and to not let anyone through.
The brother of one older lady wanted to get through,I had to get it through his head no one could tell him anything as the ambulances took everyone and he should to go to the hospital. The guy was upset and crying.

Baseball hat in the road at the scene had on it "Instant as*hole just add alcohol"

Also same summer someone in another car wreck was killed 1/2 mile down the road.

There,20 years later I feel a little better.
Everybody has their war stories.
Im sure you guys understand.
I didn't want to go here but....
I'm one that got burnt out.

You guys do a tough thing and don't let it get to you.
You may think sometimes you go unappreciated but you don't.
;)! ;)! ;)! ;)! :4STroke:

I see NYS has finally done something for its firefighters. All active firemen will receive 200 bucks this year. Hope they keep it going every year! Thanks Guys and Girls. From a commissioner that gets none. Bummer
