It's kinda up to you, if you want to spend the forty dollars now. They reccomend 1st oil change (with filter ) at 500 miles. It wouldnt hurt anything by doing so, but maybe a little premature.

No I won't go that long....just wanted to know if 300mi was too early???

The Manual says 500mi OR 30 DAYS. I'm close to that 30day mark

I'd wait for 500...Let everything seed nicely with current oil. If you change it too soon you could still be breaking in the engine and wind up with residue in your new oil which you won't be changing for quite some time.

I changed mine last year at 300 ish miles. Had a week long trip planned and i didn't want to change it while I was supposed to be sledding.

IMO I believe that any "break-in" will be done in the very first ride, I changed mine a 347, I am a believer in the Moto Man break-in method. JM2C
