Rebound adjustment

This is what I have done to get a plush ride that allows me to put on 350 miles in a day.
GYTRs up front. Both compression and rebound set in the middle.
In the rear sits a BOP multi rate spring with a yearly rebuilt KYB. The multi rate allows for a softer sit in ride and as it gets compressed the shorter stronger coils come into play to resist bottoming out.
The rebound is set in the middle and the RA has been removed from the tunnel.
I get my shocks down by a guy here in Manitoba. Very quick turn a round time and no Crossing The Boarder wait times and no shipping fees.
The best part of my setup is the cost. Used GYTR for 350 plus shipping and the spring was around 150 plus the ride.
This will be my 6th season the with GYTRs and the 3rd season with the Multi rate.
I will never drive a stock sled again. For my riding style the stock rear spring and valving bucks something fierce.

Iv got my gytrs set up right where i want them and have been fortunate to have found a dealer here in my town that will rebuild my ec ohlins with a big boy spring. Your setup sounds great but i simply cant afford it. Im going to give this rebuilt ohlins a try for this season and see if its gunna do what i hope it will. Thanx for all your assistance.....who knows next year may be a different story.

well i removed and dropped off my shock to my local polaris dealership.....my city doesnt have a yamaha or a skidoo dealership......so we will see what i get back and the price??? They said an average rebuild is $50. ya not holding my breath on that one. Even with the shock removed the rebound clickers only clicked for the first 3 clicks from all the way in then its smooth so we will see what quality of a job i will get back. I will keep u all informed.

Make sure you insist they put a new seal kit in it. If they don’t you’ll be back where you started in a few weekends.

I just figgured that was standard procedure for what they call a rebuild but i will check to make sure. This will be the first rebuild since iv owned this sled .....it already has the bigboy spring for my weight but should i be asking to revalve as well? and if they do what exactly should i be requesting.... my weight, riding style ? Or is that not an option on this shock. I know so little about this as this is my first shock rebuild

Some shops don’t consider a new seal kit part of a “rebuild”, just fresh oil and nitrogen. A progressive valve stack in that shock will really improve the ride. Unless your local shop is used to this type of shock/sled they likely won’t have a clue where to start, it will be trial and error. As mentioned before, both Shocktec and Peak Velocity in southern Ontario revalve these Mono skid shocks quite often. It would have been worth the time and money to ship yours either place. Good luck.

A shock rebuild is different from a shock tune which is as you say, set up for your weight, riding style, spring rate. A good shock guru is where this needs to go unless your local guy is familiar with tuning Ohlins mono shock. An experienced tuner will customize the valve stack to suit your sled and needs, money well spent imo.
Shocktec ships via most couriers and Canada Post with quick turnaround.

HAVE I MENTIONED YET HOW MUCH I hate MY HOME CITY? SO i DROP OFF MY SHOCK TO THE LOCAL SUZUKI DEALERSHIP.....ONLY PLACE THAT REBUILDS SHOCKS 3 DAYS AGO FOR THEM JUST TO PHONE ME BACK TONIGHT TO TELL ME THEY CANT REBUILD MY SHOCK AT ALL. SOME SHITE ABOUT NOT HAVING THE RIGHT TOOLS TO DO SO. UUUGH!!
So now i have to ship it 4 hours east of me to the next closest city to have them do it and will have to put up with the same reason i didnt want to ship it away in the first place. TIME. Now it could take weeks before i get it back. There goes sleddin at christmas.

So i sent my ec ohlins to a shock specialist in thunderbay Ontario ....4 hours away and now my bill just went from $50 to well over $250. Damn was really hoping it wouldnt cost that much right before Christmas.....however.....this guy will service , rebuild with a gasket/ oring kit overnighted from sweden ,polish the main shaft and install a custom valve set to match my weight and to make it as soft as possible using the big boy spring it had on it. Pricey but hopefully it will last a couple years and be just what the doctor ordered....literally....lol

Thats really a fair price for that job. Ohlins does have a special compound cold weather seal for the Mono. I cannot see or measure the difference but its a different part number. It is what the shock came with. Is true the Ohlins do tend to leak out sooner than the KYB or Soqi but they are designed for low drag and therefore have a looser fit in seals for performance. Seems it often occurs in summer while sitting. Very rarely in winter while being used. Ohlins also has special greases that are used. I swear by them. All these help ensure good service. Just saying it would be a shame to ditch the electronic adjust just because of leaking out.

ya i guess you get what you pay for. I just hope i dont have to ship it away and have that extra $200 charge every year ....on top of EVERYTHING else...lol

You should not have to rebuild the Ohlins EC shock every year . A quality rebuild should last a few years and many thousand miles.
I used Shocktec. He'll replace whats worn so it will last more then a year . As others said , Shocktec or Peak Velocity in our area, both do good work. My Ohlins was rebuilt 3 times since o7 after the initial revalve and rebuild with 17,000 plus miles on it . It still worked great when I sold the 07 GT last week. Same goes for the front GYTR.

Or me. I would guarantee two seasons or 3000mi.

Those 2 companies sound great but i dont think you quite realize where i am. I am half way between Winnipeg MN and Thunderbay ON. So shipping it that far away is excessivelytime consuming and expensive. I sent it to a shock specialist in thunderbay and hes doing a great job. Price should be around $250 .....which is more then i expected but a small price concidering what a new one is worth.

You're right , you are a little farther then I thought. If he does a good job and you're happy then it's worth it. I wouldn't have an idea what shipping there would be but it may be the same in the end .
Good luck with it. It's a great shock that I feel is underrated . It just needs to be setup for you and refreshed every few years or so many miles as cannondale27 said. It also depends on how hard you beat on it. Cannondale27 even offers a warranty.
