At Hay Days yesterday I saw Yamaha's new hi fax, with Du Pont embedded material. I'm convinced they will solve the 2011 XTX hi fax issues. They will be about $60 per side but are expected to last 10,000 miles. They had a display with hi fax shown where they had a hi performance wide slide on one side and the dupont embedded hi fax on the other for 4k miles. Dupont hi fax had no wear. Will solve the issue with that sled, and make the hi fax last a long time on our sleds.

My concern would be will it wear the track clips out then. Something is going to wear with the weight Yamahas carry. 120.00 for hyfax is pretty pricey also. Did you buy a set to test Mike?

If they will run 10,000 miles it will be worth it. Sounds good.

These look really interesting. If they don't wear the clips like bottlerocket said and if you had wheels like the excell wheels these may just last a real long time!

I am looking forward to seeing how they do..

I tried to buy a set but they had none to sell me. Expected at dealers by November tho. Ill be procuring a set tho. My track is not fully clipped, so well see of that makes a difference. They sort of inferred these work best with fully clipped tracks.

If you have a poor setup they will wear out just as fast. For 40 bucks you could buy a set of ice scratches for the skis and be done with it. have over 6000 miles on the 06 with the same hifax. In the end it comes down to setup.

Setup? What about the issue of the smaller diameter stock wheels than the other brands? Why introduce a pricier Hyfax when bigger wheels would do the trick? It seems like Yamaha is trying to fix the symptom of a design flaw rather than change the design.

Bigger wheels means more pressure on the rails, I would rather replace hyfax's than rails, It all goes back to set up and conditions that you ride in.

I'll be running them on my Apex XTX. Bigger wheels, loose track, FAT man on the seat. I wiped out THREE sets in 1,400 mi. of UP riding. ALL in good conditions.I am still running the used hyfax that came on my used XpertX. With a 1.5 track , I might add :o| :o| :o|

Gotta agree.

14,000 plus km trail riding on my 06 GT Apex. Original Hi-fax.
No wear the last 3 years to speak of.
Buddy owns it now. Still good to go for 2012.

Never used scratchers either. Put em on my 2011 for insurance though for river running.

So all of the Yamaha riders who have switched to bigger wheels and all the other manufacturers are wrong?? I may be mistaken, but I don't see how a wheel that is 1/4" bigger diameter is going to put detrimental pressure on the rails.

well i have 2 rails with bent tabs saying different. has to come down to leverage. 1 bolt 3" away from wheel, once you put more pressure on wheel(ie:larger diameter)=more leverage. this is why it is recomended to use doo's 2 bolt mount for extra support, or excell's mount.. also 2 bolt. one hard hit at the right place bends the rail...
