I just changed out my ski carbides. I noticed more play in the spindle/a-frame bushings than what I wouild think is acceptable for a sled with 1,200 miles on it. The upper seems to have more play than the bottom, maybe because of the leverage from the ski. This play is in and out not front to back. Is this common? Is there a better than oem replacement?

Ulmer makes a bronze oilite bushing kit. Installed it last fall and was very impressed with the fit and quality of the bushings.
The stock ones are just plastic
Pioneer makes a Delron (sp?) set i believe.
IMHO the bronze oilite will last the longest.

Tork, can the Ulmer bushings be installed with the frames on the sled, or is best to remove them and use a press?

you dont need a press. I used a piece of wooden dowel and a hammer. Light tapping basically a snug but not a tight fit. I think it is easier to remove the top a arm. I never disconnected the shocks or removed the lower a arms. some 2x4 on a jack pad to jack up the belly of the sled helped. It is not a super easy job to get to the bushings in the bulkhead, but well worth it because I had wear in those too (at 3K miles).
Very likely there are complete instructions on Ulmers own website or in his vendor section. Plus Allen and his dad are quite helpful over the phone.
