After looking at different ways to get more Hy fax life from drilling holes in the track to the SLP anti wear bolts. I went this way, It takes 64 ( 3lbs)clips for 37.00 shipped and you need a tool ,I was lucky enough to barrow one. Hope this helps someone.

i was thinking of doing the cutout but not installing clips, save weight and open hole for more snow flow/lubrication but dont know if it will make a difference,no slider problems in 530 miles so might not bother,if anyone cut out holes then not clip it let me know how it worked

You won't regret it Storm-Chaser, it improve hi-fax life and reduce the rolling resistance in almost all conditions.

I did mine 6000kms ago. I used a sharp blade like you did and it make a good job. I had did it in two step, first just open the blocked windows and try it for 800kms. It make a good improvement, but adding metal clips did even more improvement. One of the better thing i did on my RsVenture to get rid of hi-fax wear and melting in low snow conditions.

You will just have to burn the cords tips that will come out a little bit after few hundred miles. I did it once after the job and at 8500kms, my track look like a brand new fully clipped track.

My experience tells me that fully clipped is the better. A bud from here try it on is Rx1 2005 and get better top end after clipped it. Imagine the friction that is developed between the rubber patches of your track and the hifax in the 3 digits speed... this friction steal you horse power more than the added weight from the clips

Rubber is for our boots and the sole of our shoes, not for trying to slip on our sled hifaxs. The only advantage of the every third hole blocked track is for the manufacturer... less expensive, more money in their pockets.

I just installed the flat ones . I called comaplast and they said that it was all I needed. They said using the guiged would only add unneeded weight

Thanks for the tip on burning the cords after some miles. I did it to the windows that were already open as there seemed to be alot showing. I think the only reason Yamaha uses this track is so they can be 3 lbs Lighter in the magazines.

Storm-Chaser is that a dealer tool made for yamaha .Looks like it should beable to be used for the 2 in. lug as well. ;)!

I borrowed this one from the poo dealer. I think it would work on higher lugs. The tools are made in a small town close to me (Victor N.Y), I think dennis kirt sells them.sno stuff has a tool out that looks like it would work on deep lugs. That was what I was going to buy if I couldn't barrow one.

Where do you buy the clips?

Thanks,
Shane
