I keep hearing Yamaha's are heavy.

They feel light to me lighter than my cxsp 600 and 700 poo's,

Way lighter than all of my zrt's and wild cats I had.

So what's the beef, I know they are heavier, but they feel lighter

than the other stuff I was on. That's what I'm looking for, the feel

of the a sled. Right?????????

I am with you on this. I think it was TURK who gave my favorite response to that claim.

"Where I'm from we don't carry our snowmobiles we ride them".

My personal opinion is that riders who do a 5 minute ride on a 4 stroke Yamaha think the compression braking weight shift is a sign of the heavy sled they have heard about.

Interestingly as well the 'horrible darting' complaint is also magnified by the compression braking and way over called.

I love to ride this sled on long days, but I can not release the throttle and expect a calm coast to stop like all my two strokes. I have have just naturally slowly release the throttle. (the bergstrom triples and shim made it so I can just release the throttle)

WWWELL, I am HEAVY!!! 280 lbs of me + 600'ish sled= FUN!! Seriously. I went from a TX 340 to an 86 SRV to a 97 XTC to a Viper and now an Attak. Sled's ARE heavy, but the balance and performance goes up as well. Never dug a sled out that WASN'T heavy LOL! Yes, I still occasionally think about piping and extending my Viper from 136 to 144. BUT, the power and overall ride is no where near what my Attak is. Rode the Viper for a little while this winter, maybe 30 minutes. I used to think I would NEVER need more power than it has... WRONG! Even piped, it would have no where near the linear power that the 150 FI has. I just laugh when someone asks how I can ride that heavy pig. Just tell them " LET'S GO!!" I ride WI., UP, and will be taking it West. Just hit the gas and RIDE!!!!!!

Actually i dont hear hardly anyone saying that anymore..

2 years ago.. people wouldnt let it go..

But now people understand how great and realiable these 4 strokes are..

2 years ago my buddy told me he would never own a 4 stroke and never a yamaha..

This year he gave up on Cat and got a new FX nytro XTX (which he absolutley loves)

People can change, it just takes time

They are heavy. I just today loaded mine up on the trailer for storage and the difference between my SXR and Attak is very noticeable. Do I care? Not at all. I love the way the Attak rides. The only time I feel the weight is when I have to muscle the sled around...dollies, stuck, etc.

They're only heavy if you get stuck or have to drag it around. So get stuck!!!! ANd as far as dragging it around....yea, it is heavy, but how often are you really muscling it around?

STUCK HEAVY their sleds are not heavy when stuck?

So these guys complaining can pick up a stuck 500# sled but not a 575# sled. They are all heavy, I know the new doo is <450 #. But hey can they lift and carry that. lol

I always thought the same thing, only time i noticed the weight was lifting the rear and the extra 21lbs from the muffler back there.

Howvever I was ditching this winter and was getting in a pinch on a side hill in a DEEP ditch with LOTS of snow and it was sucking me towards the bottom and for the first time I felt the weight I couldn't get it to go where I wanted to easily however my 220lbs body can persuade it but I swapped with a rev and did the same thing and it was a piece of cake.

So once in 4 years of 4 strokes i noticed it, I'll take them!

The rev 800 engine just cant compare to the yamaha my god these engines rule for throttle response and pull!

I belive my 04 Warrior is lighter than my 97 SkiDoo Grand Touring I had.

I can live with a heavy sled for much better fuel milage my 04 gets TWICE the milage that the SkiDoo did

They are heavy...but I also keep hearing that you can't get the reliability out of most "lighter" 2-stroke sleds either.

The only time I notice the weight is when it is really mogulled out like 2 footers. Otherwise there balance is pretty good.
I had a chance to weigh my sled this winter with little less than 2 gallons of fuel it comes in at 681# which is about 28# more than the 800 xcrs that were there. They could lose some weight but it does not bother me when I am riding it. And besides it is very stable at high speeds.

I think most of the bad press was a result of the horrible inside ski lift of the early rx-1 ton with the no action rear suspension. it was a battle to keep the sled planted and took 3 mules to fly it through tight twisties.

With a few simple changes even that chasis becomes nimble and crisp. My biggest complaint is that the 03 rx was so close to being a true rocket but they chose to introduce a "totally" new sled with almost everything except the powerplant, front suspension and the body work left over from the 90's. The diff in price from the 10mm and a 13 mm sway bar is $0.00. to valve the shocks and use the correct spring rates in the front and rear is $0.00 and the cost to install skis that work is the same.

Maybe a few dollars in test riders

Well, they are heavy.
Too heavy.
The fact that they have got good balance and good weight distribution is no excuse for the total weight.
The interesting competitors (Doo and Lynx) have also got good balance and good weight distribution, but 30-50 kilograms less weight.
And yes, they do feel lighter when ridden aggressive...

In my opinion, weight reduction should be the number one priority back at Yamaha. There is loads of weight just waiting to be removed without risking strength and durability. When this mission is accomplished, the two stroke sled is very close to history...

Weight only matters off trail in the mountains. Trail riding and "normal" use ........... loose 15 lbs off your own body frame if you want lighter. Also, can you tell the difference between a full tank and an empty tank of fuel when riding? Not me.......
