Rode gen 1 Simmons for years on my Apex and liked them. Worked alot better with Berg's triple points on them. Only negative is the steering effort and some push when riding loose snow.
Have used triple points since Scott came out with them, still use them on my Doo but the Apex just needs sno trackers to make it perform correctly. Have ridden same day, same conditons, back to back comparisons between the two. ST are the Apex's best friend.
Would look at the bearing on the opposite side of the chain case. The bearing for the driveshaft, blow the shaft for the secondary. The pickup for the speedo is located at that spot and that would be the first item to check. The bearing is easy to replace, just be sure to loosen the 2 set screws...
Have been away and not worked on the Apex for a bit.
Going to try a couple of the ideas written here and if they don't
work, will leave it be. Will cut the panel to clip into the stick screw.
Anti rub kit is basically a bearing that mounts at the top connection of the shock on the mono-shock suspension. It keeps the track from rubbing the top of the shock which I and others had problems with. Works great even after 7 years of use.
