I put a skins under tunnel exhaust on my sled and did not want the seat thought it is a bit hard not soft and cushy like the stock one so this what I did to free up the space on the tunnel make it look ok.

Once I got the heat shield/seat mount out I removed the rear fins that are riveted on and the cross brace for the stock muffler
Then I made measurements on the inside of the panel of 5" on the bottom where it mounts then
5 1/2" on the middle creases and 5" on the top creases from the back of the panel. Then use a marker to make the lines.
Then used a band saw to cut it shorter key measure twice cut once.
Save the peace you cut off and use it as a template for your new mounting holes.
Drill out new mounting hole in the panel. Then set the panel on the sled and drill the holes in the tunnel but the larger middle hole is for a rivet head so only drill a 3/16" hole there to rivet mount bracket in that hole
If the suspension is out drill bracket out from the bottom if suspension is in the sled use side cutter/snips to remove the rivet stud then you can drill it out from the top side
Then move bracket to new location and rivet it back in
Set panel back on sled take black side plastic cover and bolt on. With a strait edge mark the inside of plastic covers and cut off on band saw.
Then put side peaces and seat on and your ready to make the back panel to cover up the the bottom of the seat and the open space. On the side panels. I will post the rest latter.

With a piece of card board make a template. I used my float plate to make the back panel seening all it does is hold ice. I will put the front half back on.
It best if your template is a little big to start with and trim it to fit nice
then use the template to transfer to back panel material once again make it a little big and trim to fit
Nice.
Then fit the panel. I used a heat gun to mold panel to fit. Then used the the scrap aluminum to make brackets.
Use these pieces to rivet the panel to the heat shield/seat mount.
Once mounted install seat and side panels and your done.
Now I'm just waiting for the exhaust and block off plate for this sled but this is what the finish mod looks like.I use a handle bar bag under the seat for storage.
This mod saves a little weight makes more room on the tunnel makes it easier to through your leg over has a clean look and is still soft for those long day rides.

Nice work, looks clean and tidy.
I did something similar for a buddy who picked up a xtx with a under tunnel exhaust . Instead of cutting the stuff out I turned the space under the seat into a storage compartment.

That looks like a lot of storage space. I have a friend with an rtx se thinking about an under tunnel exhaust I think he would like that set up. Looks good.Nice work, looks clean and tidy.

I told my buddy he can put his lunch in there and it will be warmed up by the time he is ready to eat. lol. Works good for him, he carries a extra pair of gloves and spare litre of oil etc. That looks like a lot of storage space. SnakeBit. When I first looked at the picture of the side view shot, I was thinking, what the hell does he have done on the top right corner. Looks all bent up. Taking a closer look it's the hinge on the garage door. Once my eyes focused ( to much welding today) I could see the tunnel and seat shield without the hinge. Looks good, a guy has to take advantage of every bit of space on the nytro. Good place for a tow rope . My friend stores a second spare belt on the right side under the oil tank when he heads into the mountains, just another tip for storage space. No room up front because he has a super charger and that is where the oil tank or oil pump is located.

Has anyone seen a seat mod similar to this but just using a tubular mount to hold up the seat, kinda like a Poo Dragon's seat?

A guy by the username breeze455 had done it with the stock seat support from a pro. Worked with very little modification. I can't find the thread but he had came up with a bunch of different mods for the nytro that were pretty cheap and easy to do,before he went on to other things. He hasn't been on here in a very long timeHas anyone seen a seat mod similar to this but just using a tubular mount to hold up the seat, kinda like a Poo Dragon's seat?
