Check the steering ball joints under/front of the gas tank. I bet that is where your problem is.

Use extra care as to not strip them little set screws. Use quality torx socket.

Bought my RTX in March 06. Approaching 10,000 miles. Lots of updates. Has been rock solid dependable. Never left me stranded. Believe it or not still have lots of life on 2nd set of sliders.

Yamaha SMA-8FU38-01 is what I am using on my 06. Around 5000 miles no problems. Clean & re grease bearings every spring. Only use the oversize wheels if you have a slider wear problem. That mount point location is where my rails cracked so keep your eyes open..

I got ticketed WITHOUT radar. Cop said I was obviously speeding. Ticket says " Speeding in excess of 50 km/hr on public trail" I could of fought it but then I have to drive back 6hrs for the court date.

On my 06 I turned the idle up maybe 1 turn? I don't remember it being an issue though. My yamaheater green light was flashing at idle. So an increase to the idle rpm was the fix.
