great sound- but

Well sasquatch I not only feel safer because of them I know they save lives. Lots of people have told me instances where the sound warned them of their presence (bikes) prior to them (cage drivers) seeing them. I can agree to disagree with you on this matter no problem. I will say this though in closing. If I run and I do run loud pipes on my bike who am I hurting? No hiways or roads are being closed because of my pipes. If I get caught by the law I will pay the piper and pay the ticket no one else has anything to do with it. If someone does not like it (the loud pipes) this is a somewhat free country they can gather and sign a petition hand it over to their local police or politician. My point is I will pay the piper no one else because of my choice to run loud pipes what ever the reason may be. My action only affects me not public roads and what not. The loud sound from bikes I couldnt care less about people complaining too bad. Sleds and loud pipes is different now to me at least because now my choice to run loud pipes may help to get trails shut down or changed due to the loud pipes. People other than myself could be affected other than the loud sound that is by my choice to run loud pipes. So my choice is to not run loud pipes on my sleds. It is not being hyprocritical but in fact just that a fact of a reality that exists between motorcycles and snowmobiles.

Sigh!

Did the very first motorcycle have loud pipes? When the motorcycle first came out we enjoyed a lot more rights and freedoms. It very well could of came out with loud pipes and nothing said. Nowadays if you came out with the very first street legal snowmobile and loud pipes, I think you would get a ticket. Minorities love to control the masses it gives them a false sense of power!

Don't know about the first motorcycle but I can say my Dads Henderson was very quiet. As was my Grandfathers Harley. No ear spitting sounds from either. All bikes sold now are quiet as churchmice. Listen to a new Harley. Hardly hear it at all. Government mandated sound levels. Its after they are sold that the pipes get ripped off and the straight pipes go on.

Did a few searchs and discovered that a lot of places are starting to ban Motorcyles. Noise being one of the prime causes. loud pipes may not close trails but some towns and citys are banning them as well as condos. Open highway is still wide open but where you live and ride is being limited.

I'm not sure My bike would pass a 85db test. It would pass a 106db with no problem.

If Bikers don't keep a handle on just how loud they get someone else will do it for them.

Where the Dog and I live noise is not as great an issue. In the US it seems to becoming quite an issue in some areas.
